As you may have noticed by browsing this board a bit, it doesn't follow what seems to be the general setup of other roleplay boards around the web, and therefore, we felt a minor introduction of our setup might be in order.
Our roleplay concept is somewhat based on time progression; meaning, we all try to roleplay our characters around roughly the same time in the roleplay, with no one roleplaying their characters days or weeks ahead of the others, roleplay time.
- So, how does the time progression concept work?
It's fairly simple; we move forward when the admin makes the announcement. What day and what time it is in the RP can be easily seen in the bar on the left side of this site, but an announcement will be made all the same, so that it won't be overlooked. The announcement will be made well ahead of time, so that everyone will have a chance to wrap up what they're doing, should they need to.
- So then, what about the rest of the setup? How does it work?
Well, as you can see, each so-called hotspot (a place created for characters to gather at, for those who want) has it's own forum, where the events of said hotspot will be roleplayed.
For example, if you want your character to go to the Festival area when Day #2 has been announced, you create a thread named "Day 2 - [your character's name]". Always put the number of the day first, and then the character name.
If the scene you have in mind is a solo one, where you are planning on roleplaying only by yourself, you also put "not approachable" in the title, so that people will know.
If, on the other hand, you are looking to interact with someone else's character, you put "approachable" in the title. Then, once another character joins yours, you change the title of the thread to include the other character's name as well.
Example: The player of the character Dominic de Vere wants him to go to the V.I.P. Lounge on Day #2. Once Day #2 is announced to have begun, the player thus goes into the forum titled V.I.P. Lounge, and creates a thread called "Day #2 - Dominic de Vere - approachable".
Let's then say that Lavinia decides that she wants her character to interact with Dominic. She goes into the thread, and posts about her character arriving.
When that happens, and Lavinia joins Dominic, Dominic's player changes the thread title to say "Day #2 - Dominic/Lavinia".
To wrap it up: what thread titles need to contain are:
- The ongoing RP Day (possibly even the time of day)
- The name(s) of the participating character(s)
- Whether the participating character(s) are approachable by others (therefore, if Approachable is missing from the thread title, they are considered not to be approachable and it's considered good form to contact the players before joining their thread.)
You may, if you want and space permits, include an additional title for your thread, but that isn't compulsory.
- So, what happens when characters leave one location to move to another?
A new thread following the same template is started at the new location. For a smooth continuation, at the end of the old thread, a notice and a link to the follow-up thread should be included.
Example: Dominic and Lavinnia are done at the V.I.P. Lounge, and want to go to to the Backstage Parking. They begin their new thread there, and at the end of the one which has just finished, the following is mentioned:
Continued at: the Backstage Parking
Therefore, one knows precisely where to go from there to continue reading the story.
